In addition to competitive salaries, generous leave allowances, staff development and an excellent working environment there are numerous benefits that contribute to the total reward package for staff, which make Edge Hill University an excellent place to work for both existing and potential colleagues. We recognise that our staff are our greatest asset, if you do choose to come to Edge Hill University, this is what we can offer you.
Holidays and Work-Life Balance
Providing a work-life balance for staff is important to us and we offer generous holiday entitlements. (Entitlements noted are pro-rata for part-time/part-year staff).
- Academics and Managers receive 35 days annual leave per annum;
- Support staff receive between 22 and 29 days annual leave per annum dependent on grade and length of service alongside and in some areas the opportunity to opt into a flexi-time scheme.
You will also receive entitlement to 8 bank holidays and 5 extra-statutory days per annum.
The University also operates an annual leave purchase scheme, where you can purchase up to 10 days additional holiday leave per annum, subject to departmental authorisation.
We also have policies to support you through the various events in life such as enhanced family leave entitlements, flexible working options, and a career break scheme.
Pay
We operate a single pay spine for most members of staff with competitive rates of pay. All of our roles are evaluated to ensure equal pay measures are met and roles are assigned to a grading band. Each year you will be entitled to an annual increment to progress you through the banding until you reach the top of your grade band. The pay spine is part of the national Higher Education (HE) sector pay negotiations, hence the pay spine is adjusted annually in line with the national pay award negotiated by the sector's recognised Employers' Association and recognised Trade Unions.
Pensions
Edge Hill University makes a significant contribution to the defined benefit pensions schemes alongside individual contributions, making them a significant part of the pay and benefits package available to staff. As well as providing for a pension, the schemes also make provision for other benefits such as life cover and ill-health retirement.
- Academic staff are auto-enrolled into the Teachers' Pension Scheme. Edge Hill currently pays a monthly contribution of 23.68% of your salary into your pension scheme.
- Support staff are auto-enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme. Edge Hill currently pays a monthly contribution of 16.3% of your salary into your pension scheme.
Existing current members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme can choose to continue to contribute to this scheme if desired.
